Each year the Hockey Australia Masters Committee calls for nominations for the prestigious Outstanding Contribution to Women’s Hockey award with presentations made at the Women’s National Championships Opening Ceremony. 

There are a number of criteria to have fulfilled over at least 10 years, in order for a nominee to be considered.

Based on information collected through the years by Coleen Dayman, Laurie Packham and more recently Jean-Marie Rudd, the WA Masters Hockey Committee is presented with potential nominees each year. These nominations are discussed at the WAMC meeting prior to endorsement to ensure nominations meet the criteria.

The WAMC recommendations are sent to (Hockey Australia Masters Committee (HAMC) to review and if approved create the State Service Awards to be presented at the Nationals.

The two nominees from WA unfortunately did not attend the tournament in Cairns in September this year, so we like to recognise their achievements and share this with the wider Masters Community and those visiting our WA Masters Hockey website.

Janet Elliot

Janet has made a significant contribution as a player, coach, selector and administrator at a Western Australian Masters state, local and club level/s. This service was at Hockey WA, Joondalup, Hale and WASPS Hockey Clubs in the metropolitan area, Gingin country Hockey association and at National Masters Championships as a player, coach, and selector.

Janet started playing hockey when she was 8 years old in Gingin.
At 13 years old she represented Mortlock at country week juniors. When she was 15 years old Janet representing Mortlock association at senior country week. Janet also represented Gingin Association at country week championships. 

Janet has continued to represent and play hockey for country Mortlock and Gingin Associations, Joondalup, Hale and WASPS Hockey clubs. 

She has been playing and coaching hockey teams for over 42 years with many successes.
Janet represented WA at master’s Hockey in 2011.
She coached Western Australian Masters Hockey teams for 9 years in 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2007, 2006, 2005 and 2004, having success with the O35s team winning a gold medal in 2006.

Janet was also a Western Australian State Country Hockey player representative for 4 years.

 

Mid-Week Masters Hockey:

Janet has played masters hockey and been involved with coaching master’s teams for approximately 15 years.

She coached and played at Hale and WASPS Hockey Clubs mid-week master’s Women’s teams.

She was heavily involved in Hale Hockey club as a Coach and Director of Hockey- administrator and committee person.

Janet worked at Hockey WA coordinating their development program in 2016. Her role was running coaching clinics, mentoring young aspiring coaches and coordinating junior carnival/s for under 13 and under 15 age groups.

Over her hockey career, Janet has done a lot of behind the scenes work with organizing club masters’ teams, supporting ‘new’ Masters Players, as well as anything that needs to be done to support masters Hockey at a club level, and for masters Hockey in Western Australia. She has been involved with coaching and has held various official positions.

Janet is WA’s most respected and dedicated representative nominated to receive the Award in recognition of Outstanding Contribution to Women’s Masters Hockey in Western Australia for 2021.

 

 

 

 

Jan Davis

Jan has made significant contribution as a player, a master’s Coach, a master’s Manager and an administrator at a Club level - Melville City Hockey Club.

 

Club Hockey:

Jan’s involvement with Masters’ hockey began in 1995 as a player with Melville City Hockey Club, until she retired from playing in 2010.

To this present time, Jan has remained involved and connected to the Melville City Masters hockey team/s by managing and coaching either the 1st or 2nd team/s. To date, this is a total of 26 years) with Masters’ Hockey.

 

Hockey Involvement:

Jan started playing hockey when she 12 years old for Nungarin country association.

When she moved to Perth she played with Fremantle Hockey Club, Willetton Hockey Club and Melville City Hockey Club.

 

Club Official positions:

2006 onwards-Coached junior and senior women’s hockey teams Melville City Hockey Club

2006 onwards-Manager of many teams at Melville City Hockey Club

2008 onwards-Event Organizer of Melville City Hockey Club

Coordinator of Melville City Hockey Club Social Committee- there is rarely an event at the club that Jan is not involved with ranging from volunteer, gracious host and organiser

 

Jan does a lot of behind the scenes work with organizing Club Masters Teams, supporting ‘new’ Masters Players, managing 2 masters mid-week women’s teams, and anything that needs to be done to support Masters Hockey at a club level (Melville City Hockey Club) but also for Masters Hockey in Western Australia.

Jan has also been asked to assist other clubs with their master’s team/s and has gladly done this.

She has been involved with coaching and has held various official positions at club level, Melville City Hockey Club, since joining in 1990.

Jan is another well respected and dedicated representative nominated to receive the Award in recognition of Outstanding Contribution to Women’s Masters Hockey in Western Australia for 2021.
