WA Over 45's - 2015 Match Reports

WA vs NSW - Thursday, September 24, 2015

A great 1st game for the tournament with a decisive win against NSW. The 1st half saw us expend a lot of nervous energy. No score at half time. NSW were determined to stop us in the 2nd half and ended up with 2 backs off the field after colliding with each other mid tackle just outside the circle. We scored first with a raised shot from Bugs, just deflected on the line by Larissa. NSW equalized with a corner goal. The second came with some great passing and Bugs using speed to drag around the keeper and finish. The last 5 mins saw us take control of the game and score 2 goals.

Result: WA 3 - NSW 1
Goals : Lauren Johnston 1, Larissa Rechichi 1, Claire Wright 1

WA vs QLD - Friday, September 25, 2015

We had plenty of action in our attacking 25, but couldn’t mange to convert. 0-0 at half time. It was a hard fought game after yesterdays match and Qld had fresh legs after a rest day. Claire finally scored from a rebound and Qld equalized after some confusion with an umpiring decision just outside our defensive circle.

Result: WA 1 - QLD 1
Goals : Claire Wright 1

WA vs ACT - Saturday, September 26, 2015

Day 3 of the tournament and our 3rd game. ACT coming off a rest day had a little more energy. For the 3rd day in a row we came on after half time still at 0-0. After a stern talking to at half time we decided not to try and smash the ball through ACT’s stacked backline but to pass the ball around. Claire pounced on the ball mid circle and slammed in a great shot from the left from a corner variation.

Result: WA 1 - ACT 0
Goals : Claire Wright 1

WA vs SA - Monday, September 28, 2015

We finally have worked out how to control the game by keeping possession. This had nothing to do with Ali’s threat to drag us if we did not set up the press but more to do with a promise of a carton if we passed it across the field and back again in consecutive moves. We are still waiting to review video evidence to claim our reward. Meg’s scored a hatrick, Reilly a great goal from reverse stick and Robby slapped home a powerful tennis style shot to seal the game.

Result: WA 5 - SA 0
Goals : Megan Caporn 3 Kelli Reilly 1 Robyn Himbeck 1

WA vs TAS - Tuesday, September 29, 2015

A big game today. It was fast and hard fought but we kept possession and controlled much of the game, giving their keeper a great work-out. Robby scored in the first half from a penalty stroke with a “powerful shot”. We kept Tassie scoreless with some great short corner defence. The game highlights were great team work and determined play from the whole team. Sticking to the game plan saw us come out victorious in a key match. We finished looking forward to 2 well earned rest days.

Result: WA 1 - TAS 0
Goals : Robyn Himbeck
