WA vs NSW - Saturday, September 29, 2007
We had a bye on the first day so it was an extra day of relaxing and shopping before the first game, which in itself was late in the day (4.45pm).
We played NSW, who you would assume to be strong, being the host state.
We got away to a confident start and after about 15 minutes Kymberley scored after intercepting a pass, beating the full back and running into the circle and slotting into the left hand corner. About 5 minutes later, Kerry passed to Dale across the top of the circle. Dale was allowed to run into the circle without being tackled and hit it home from just inside the line.
At the other end PD and the backs held out 3 short corners to keep them scoreless.
Early in the second half we thought we'd scored again off a short but Jillie owned up to kicking it. Defence was again solid and eventually Maris got a pass to Kymberley who passed to Jill. She chased a bouncing ball in to the circle and knocked it passed the Goalie. Kymberley did a dive to deflect and Ali knocked it in.
A good solid win to start the tournament.

WA vs TAS - Sunday, September 30, 2007
We started well with many early penetrations of the circle but without scoring. We had a few shots away off short as well but couldn't get them in the net. Their attacks were successfully repelled and as the half time whistle went there was no score but we had a short. Janese took the shot and Jill deflected in off the left post to put us 1 up.
Only 4 minutes into the second half Kymberley intercepted a pass in the defensive 25 and ran all the way down the left and into the circle, passing back to Betty who put us 2 up.
Near the end of the game, a pass from Kerry into the forward line finished with Betty who dragged past a defender and had a shot. Jill was again on the left post and deflected it in. A last short after the final whistle was deflected over the top to keep the score at 3-0.
Our backs did a great job of moving the ball around the back from 16 yard hits to get us back into attack. Time and time again, the ball moved from Maris to Gail then to Shirley or Ali and on to the strikers. PD again had no blemishes and Gail saved a shot on goal from a short corner.

WA vs VIC - Monday, October 1, 2007
We didn't start all that well today. We seemed to be trying too hard if anything. We had quite a few circle penetrations from Peta, Betty, Kymberley and Jill but only got a couple of actual shots away and had no short corners in the first half. Our defense held up and although they had a couple of shorts they didn't score.
The second half was much better with our first short coming after 3 minutes. The first shot didn't score but we won another short and this time there was a lot of aggression off the goalies pads, with Peta putting it in on the second to third rebound.
Shortly after Jillie was the one to get the rebound flicking it over the goalie, who had dropped.
The next goal was the result of a solo run by Alison who took it into the circle for a shot from the top. The goalie again dropped and stopped it but Ali got her own rebound and pushed it in.
The final goal started from the back line with a free hit from Gail to Janese to Kerry who crossed it. Ali deflected the cross to Kymberley at the top of the cicle. The goalie rushed out and again dropped but the ball had already hit the backboard.
There was a lot of running and tackling by Shirley and Tracy on the half backs with Janese, Kerry, JR and Dale moving the ball through the centre. PD once again kept the slate clean with help from Maris and Gail.

WA vs NT - Wednesday, October 3, 2007
After the traditional shopping bye yesterday, we started the second half of the tournament with a definitive win.
Our first goal came within the first minute after a tap on by Betty in a crowded circle was hit in by Jillie.
The second one was a case for one of Agatha Christie's characters as we tried to work out who-dun-it. The ball had been hit into our circle and JR had got a touch but the actual hitting into the goals was by someone from NT.
NT had not yet had a hit inside their circle but finally managed to get a ball there and win a (some say dubious) short corner. PD blocked the shot, Gail cleared it to the half line to Betty who got it to Jillie, who scored, probably within 10 seconds of their short corner shot.
Janese scored our 4th for the half after a pass from Dale on a free outside the circle.
In the second half Kymberley scored the first after the goalie went down and Alison kept the ball moving. Kymberley dragged it to the right past the goalie and belted it in.
The final goal came from a pass from Kerry to Dale and then across to Betty, who scored.
Everybody played well and there was lots of good passing and talking.

WA vs ACT - Thursday, October 4, 2007
Not our best game today and the result was disapointing but at least we remain undefeated.
We had a few early chances but ACT's goalie was quite good and saved them.
Our only goal came after Betty pased to Kymberley who trapped and virtually hit it behind her to pass the keeper at chest height.
We seemed to drop our heads after their goal and despite a few chances couldn't make a score board impression.
Jillie got a yellow card ( unfairly in our opinion) and we played short at the end which made it harder.
WA is still undefeated and likley to finish on top but will need to play better to win the final.

WA vs QLD - Friday, October 5, 2007
With many of the team suffering with various levels of injury, super-sub Vicki played her first game today.
We scored early in the first half when a ball came out the defending circle to Janese who pushed it through a gap for Kymberley to run on to. She took it all the way to the circle and passed back to Jillie who put it in.
Our second came later on the first short corner. Janese trapped and went left, then laid off with a reverse stick to Kymberley. Her hit to Jillie on the post was deflected in.
The second half was a war of attrition with QLD getting a goal but not looking like winning.
We play for gold tomorrow v NSW.

Final - WA vs NSW - Saturday, October 6, 2007
It was the Gold medal play off and unfortunately not our best effort. The NSW solitary goal was controversial.
NSW had been awarded a short and WA were called for breaking.
The umpire was still talking to our backs when NSW took it the second time, catching our girls out. In our opinion the corner should have been called back a third time but was let go to our detriment.
Having said that we barely had a shot on goal all game and no short corners, so while we may not have deserved to lose in that way we didn't deserve to win either.
Result: WA 0 - NSW 1
The following players were selected for the Australian over 50s team to play NZ in Hamilton, next year.
Janese McDougall, Jill Sheean, Kymberley Wilson and Betty Butterly.
Pattie Davis was selected a a shadow player.
