WA Over 60's - 2013 Match Reports

WA vs QLD - Friday, September 27, 2013

Good team out of luck again!

Second half our goalie went down landing heavily and popped her shoulder, Nancy was unable to continue.
Thanks to Yvonne Waddell and Helen Johansen who took over the goalkeeping duties.
We had many shots on goal and short corners went astray.
Qld goal was scored late in the second half when our makeshift goalie was keeping.
It was a sterling effort by the whole team.

Result: WA 0 - QLD 1

WA vs VIC - Saturday, September 28, 2013

WA came out firing.

The Vics are always very physical! After a rest and xrays to check the shoulder Nancy was back on deck again, she kept them out on many occasions.

We squandered many shotsw on goal but looked the better team overall, particularlay in the second half. Unfortunately the final score did not show this.

Match Result: WA 1 - VIC 2

Goal Scorers: Carol Samsa

WA vs ACT - Monday, September 30, 2013

Today's game against ACT was always going to be a toughie as the weather was not the best. On field 2 without any protection from the wind which was fierce today. WA won the toss and decided to put ACT playing into the wind in the first half, our tactic was to tire them out. It was as suggested a tough game with ACT scoring 2 goals.

As play continued just before half time Karen Allan took the ball into the circle passed to Betty Bryant on the right who had plenty of time and scored. Half Time score to 2-1 to ACT.

The second half was going to be difficult having to run into the wind all the time, the wind had not died down at all. There was some good hockey played by both teams and mid way through the half we got a short corner. Jan Arcus pushed out to Macca who passed left to Helen Johansen who cracked the ball onto Jan Arcus stick and ricochet into goal. At that stage 2 all and the game was not getting any easier with the wind. With just over 2 minutes to go we got another short corner. This time Karen Allan pushed out to Macca who hit a straight shot into the right corner. For the last 2 minutes we defended solidly so keep ACT out. Great game by all WA.

Result: WA 3 - ACT 2
Scorers: Betty Bryant, Jan Arcus and Catherine McFarlane

WA vs SA - Tuesday, October 1, 2013

Game today Tuesday not until 7 pm so had the whole day to prepare. Most of the ladies went out to watch some of the other WA games during the day to get some inspiration. It has been raining quite a bit during the day so not looking forward to getting too wet at that time of night.

Not a very good game for us, whilst we were all trying very hard following Taps instructions it was to no avail. SA scored in the first half off a short corner. Unfortunately it did not seem to be our night, although we did get a short corner when Karen Allan pushed out to Macca who put the ball back towards Legs and there was a bit of a scramble and Legs managed to dibble the ball over the line for a goal.

The second half was much the same as the first half. We were all over them and definitely the better team, we just couldn't get that ball into the back of the net. SA had a breakaway midway through the second and with someone at the top of the circle to do a tomahawk and score.

At the end of the game Karen Adams who has been doing out stats informed us we had 32 inside the circle to SA 5 inside, very disappointing for us and night games just not out thing.

Result: WA 1 - SA 2
Goal Scorer: Karen Allan

WA vs NSW - Thursday, October 3, 2013

The game today is after our rest day where some of the ladies went to Hahndorf and visited some wineries, the others went to the hockey to support our teams.

Todays game was to be no easier than any of the others, NSW are always a strong outfit. We started pretty well with some tight defence but NSW got an early corner which they scored. The game continued with both teams playing quite tightly on each other, we did got a short corner but no score this time. As play continued NSW managed to get another corner, the pusher out person borked rather badly we thought and Jane Manning was sent to the centre line. Down to 4 defenders and this time it was Macca who broke and sent to the centre line, but our last 3 remaining defenders mangaged to keep NSW out. Brilliant effort girls.

As play continued neither side were getting the upper hand so it was a really good game at this stage.

Second half much the same as the first. Very good tight hockey being played by both teams. Lots of good running by our team and tight solid defence to keep them out. Unfortunately one foray into the circle by NSW and the ball hit a defence foot right in front of the goal to give Nancy a chance to defend a stroke. Jenny Gray from NSW only just managed to get the ball past Nancy on her left side. At that stage down 2 nil but not out just yet. As the game went on both teams tiring a little but it was a good game overall. WA got a short corner practically on the siren, so it had to be played out. Karen Allan pushed the ball out to Carol Samsa who very neatly slotted it into the corner. yeah! Another loss by only 1 goal, never been thrashed.

Result: WA 1 - NSW 2
Goal Scorer: Carol Samsa
